I remember it vividly, a void-like feeling toppled with a hurricane of emotions came over me in 2017. At the skilled nursing facility, my mom had survived a stroke, and I was handed a loving ‘living bequest’ disguised as what seemed like a life sentence. The words hit like a sledgehammer; she “cannot be left alone” ever & indefinitely.
